Economy Class Outfit

Barely four hours of sleep (someone say iOS5?) and I’m on a plane to my stopover location to Hong Kong International Airport, and for my next four hours, comfort is my primary concern. While premium men’s magazine like GQ tells you to wear a suit for those business travel, no everyone can enjoy or afford the cushy environment of business-class travel. Here’s how to dress (like me) for maximum comfort in the economy-class without compromising on style.

Bags
My carry-on is the LENORE Capsule backpack from IGNOBLE, which is of a great size. I stuff all sorts of things in there and no, that’s not what she said. My Muji luggage comes highly recommended by GQ’s Creative Director, Jim Moore, as an all round affordable bag, though I bought it before seeing the video. There’s really nothing bad I could say about it except that you could not replace the locks if you misplaced them. My secondary bag, which I plan to leave in Japan pending my move, is the standard duffle of the Officers’ Cadets School in Singapore. It’s been through hell and back.

Shades
I’m not a big fan of those night eye covers for your shut eye on the plane, I wear a classic Rayban Aviator for route to my morning flight and snooze on the plane

Shirt
I wear an old Surface2Air long sleeve polo. I believe it’s a blend of wool and cotton, therefore offering a feeling of warmth but still breathable. It’s color is dark but not plain, to mask stains from those messy in-flight meals.

Raw Jeans
Emphasis on raw. You’ve been wearing them for months now, it’s probably dirtier than Sammyboy on a group “field” trip so go ahead and spill that OJ. Who cares? I wear a 6-month old Pure Blue Japan X The Denim Store collaboration and it’s more comfortable than anything.

Brogues
My Dr Marten brogues has seen some damage in the recent months and the wear and dark color goes well with the rest of my outfit. It’s formal enough to meet a business contact right after landing.

Watch
I’m wearing a Uniform Wares Chronograph 300, my only automatic watch, I worry too much about missing flights because of those tricky timezones to wear my manual ones.
