Apple CEO Resignation : Yay or Nay

I don’t need to repeat the news that Apple CEO has tendered his resignation, because it was probably flooding your news feed all morning. While he still wishes to be on the board of directors, Tim Cook is set to take over his legacy, if he can.

Working as a creative in the advertising industry, you would realise that Apple is one of clients and creative directors favourite reference, mentioning the brand at least once per campaign. I hear enough of these references, to know that Apple isn’t a company that’s designed by committee. ZDNet looks at Tim Cook, Steve’s go-to right hand man, and natural successor of the company. While I think he is more than capable to run the company, and run it well. But that isn’t what Steve Jobs has been doing all these years.

He is the person that made even me spend good money on his array of gadgets, some which I have unnecessary need for. As we speak, I have an iPad 2, MacBook Pro, iPhone 4, 2 iPhone 3GS (Don’t ask), and I’m not stopping anytime soon. While all my clients says to do this and that so we can be more like Apple, they don’t realise that the moment they try to follow a brand like that, they can never be that brand.

Apple leads. Apple says that touch screens should be the way to go, and they are now the way they go. It takes a rigid, strict, meticulous man to do things without caring what other people think, despite what other people say. They’ve excluded Flash in their iOS, because they can, while I can imagine other tablet makers saying, we have no choice but to include it, because that’s what x% of the users need. Needless to say, the risks involved and size of balls you need to have is unparalleled, and is exactly what garnered so much of my respect for Apple.

I don’t know Tim Cook, but he has big footsteps to fill. I’ll hold back on quick judgements on where the company will head to wait and see. And that judgement should come soon with the iPad 3 as soon as early next year.
