In food porn, this would classify as the hardcore category. This documentary follows 85-year-old master sushi chef Jiro Ono, owner of the 3-Michelin-stars, Sukiyabashi Jiro restaurant in Tokyo. The owner of the 10 seater, $300-a-plate restaurant shows his journey to perfection, something which he realises can never be attained.
Director, David Gelb introduces Jiro’s craft, from the ins and outs of the tuna auction to the proper way to massage an octopus, in gastronomically extravagant detail and pays through homage to the deeply rooted process of preparing sushi.
Movie opens 9, March 2012 in the US.
