I’m only 25 years old and nowhere near getting married, so eligibility for a new home isn’t within immediate reach. However, I’ve decided to redo my room slowly for a more organized and sleek look, to accomodate my growing wardrobe and possiblility of a girlfriend moving in.
I’ve identified the main areas of interests, namely, the study area, the bed, and the wardrobe/storage. Following the comfort principle, these items may be pricier than your Ikea, but they should be able to be used extensively enough to make it worth the price. With that in mind, my research ensues and here are the results.
The Study Area

I currently spend a good 80% of my day on a giant Ikea table, and stuff would just be shrewn all over my table. What I needed was a modular and classic look that was easy to put together. Answer: Vitsœ
VitsÅ“ is a highly customizable shelving system that allows you to plan, buy and build a shelf that matches your needs to the teeth, much like lego. The system was designed by one of the most influential designers of the 20th century, Dieter Rams, who also came up with the “ten commandments” of design. I’ve been steadily building up a book collection, since it seems that you need to have one to achieve the look in most of their examples.
The Bed
Sex and sleep. Two of maybe the most important activities known to man (or just men). You are gonna spend a solid one-third of your life here, so don’t spare any expenses. My super single bed has been good to me for the last 10 years, but it’s time to make space with more space. Answer: Sleep Number
Regardless of which of the Sleep Number mattresses you buy, your long-term partner will surely appreciate the individualized adjustable settings for each side of the bed. Sleep Number revolutionalizes sleeping by allowing you to tilt your bed to a reclining position and to adjust a Sleep Number which determines the softness of the mattress on a scale of 1 to 100. Massachusetts chiropractor Dr. Benjamin Ryan tells his patients that if you can afford it, the Sleep Number bed by Select Comfort is the way to go, especially if you and the person sleeping next to you prefer different levels of firmness in your sleeping surface.
Wardrobe
Perhaps the kitchen image provided might be abit misleading, but I’ve always felt a wall-to-wall seamless white wardrobe was the way to go. This is a fantastic example, including the subtle lighting coming off the bottom. With that, your mate can store her clothes without making your room looks like a gay frathouse. Unfortunately, there isn’t a ready made solution to this one, good luck on a good contractor.
Perhaps now isn’t the best time for me to indulge in non-essential expenditures, but this is an eventual quest that a man has to take. So, why not start looking now? Check out my tumblr of spaces that inspired me.
